YA School Spirits Meets If I Have to Be Haunted

Get Ghosted 85,000 words

Born and raised in Louisiana, Jessica Chandler writes spooky, but not-so-scary young adult fiction. Feeling the need to escape her small, rural town, she attended residential college preparatory school the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts where she began truly honing in on her passion for writing. She then went on to graduate from Hendrix College (no relation to the musician) with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and from Louisiana State University with a Master’s in Human Resource Education.

After graduation, Jessica moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, which is seated in the heart of Acadiana in

south Louisiana, aka Cajun Country. (Laissez les bons temps rouler, y’all!)

She’s worked as a civil servant since January 2018 for a state licensing board where she gets to put her problem solving skills to use. When she's not writing she can be most likely found in the kitchen conducting culinary experiments. She’s a firm believer that cooking for yourself can be its own form of self-care, something she feels her collection of tattoos serve as well. Fun fact: she has a tattoo of a cat dressed as Purrlock Holmes. Her pair of anxiety ghost tattoos remind her of her mission to write characters that reflect the representation she needed when she was growing up, focusing on mental health and asexuality.

GET GHOSTED is her debut novel inspired by all the “what if” questions surrounding losing her soul cat to cancer and wondering how safe someone would play it if they got a second chance at life.

Pitch

A teen ghost hunter risks breaking her deal with the Grim Reaper to reunite a half-ghost teen boy with his living body before he passes on—or worse the Reaper catches them.

Opening Lines

In Skyler Hebert’s experience, ghosts usually only had one of two dispositions: prickly or lonely. They rarely met in the intersection between, as was evidenced by the ghost of Gladys Guidry.

Skyler sighed as she stepped two feet to her left, just before a fancy china plate crashed into the gravel drive next to her beaten Doc Martens and shattered.
